RTF 3rd and 4th paragraphs: Highly placed sources said a handful of top advisers signed off on how the CIA would interrogate top al Qaeda suspects — whether they would be slapped, pushed, deprived of sleep or subjected to simulated drowning, called waterboarding. The high-level discussions about these “enhanced interrogation techniques” were so detailed, these sources said, some of the interrogation sessions were almost choreographed — down to the number of times CIA agents could use a specific tactic.permalinkparentdulouz (25 children) [+]dulouz -4 points 14 hours ago * [-]A little thought-experiment here.Imagine they have caught someone and they know he has planted a Nuclear bomb somewhere in the USA. It will kill over a million people and obviously devastate the economy leading to collapse.Would torture of that man to find out where it is be justified? If no then fine. Let the innocents die for your morals. If yes, where does the spectrum of torture victims end? Would saving 1000, 100, 10 or 1 innocent life be justified?Basically, do the victims or criminal have more rights? You have to choose. This is a win-lose situation.

But the government does have that power. I cannot be a part of a great number of things.I can only be a part of a group as long as the group itself is legal.

It’s funny how whenever a high ranking government official does something that the liberal community condemns, we label them “Top Bush Administration Official”, rather than just naming their title. For some reason, all fault has to be traced back to Bush. We’re losing grasp of the objective and criticizing in regards to spite.

So, where’s my apology? I get modded down into oblivion every time I state that these policies went all the way to the top.Honestly, if you believe the “bad apples” Abu Graib excuse then you should just walk out to your back yard, put a shotgun to your head and put us all out of our misery.

Ok, lets tweak your thought-experiment a tad. Given the scenario you outline could you personally administer the torture ?Would your answer differ between the two variants of the scenario ?
