Dwight White, 58; member of Steelers' famed Steel Curtain defense …

Dwight White, the Steel Curtain defensive end known as “Mad Dog” who helped lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s, died Friday. He was 58.
The Steelers said White died at a Pittsburgh hospital. The cause was not disclosed. The team said White was released from the hospital after back surgery, but was readmitted with complications.
White is the second member of the original four-man Steel Curtain to die this year. Defensive tackle Ernie Holmes died Jan. 17 in a car accident in Texas.
White, a two-time Pro Bowl player, was best known for leaving his hospital bed to play in the Steelers’ first Super Bowl victory, 16-6 over the Minnesota Vikings after the 1974 season. He lost 18 pounds after being diagnosed with pneumonia and a lung infection, yet played nearly the entire game in cold, wet conditions at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans.
White made three tackles for no yards as the Vikings ran seven of their first eight running plays his way and went on to finish with only 17 yards rushing on 21 attempts. White also accounted for the only points of the first half when he sacked Vikings quarterback Fran Tarkenton in the end zone for a safety.
White, a former player at East Texas State (now Texas A&M University-Commerce), gained his nickname because of his intensity. He often said that playing on the defensive line was like having “a dog’s life.”
Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney said that inner drive was the reason the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder could play so well only hours after being hospitalized.
“He played with a relentlessness that led us to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s,” Rooney said in a statement. “Dwight will be remembered by those who knew him even more for being a wonderful and caring person.”

'House' Gets Amnesia; 'The Bachelor' Gets To Choose; Britney Gets …

“Sex: The Revolution” (VH1, 10 p.m.) stands out from the usual VH1 programming by actually taking its subject seriously.
There’s a lot of blurring of nudity (using a new technique that turns skin tones into subtle woven patterns). An uncensored version of the four-part documentary will be shown next week on Sundance.

The Bachelor 12: Why Matt Should Choose Shayne

-Reality Ladies, having trouble finding that perfect man? Tired of spending long, fruitless hours roaming singles bars and online personal ads? Then let ABC’s The Bachelor help you! Once a year a bevy of beautiful bachelorettes travel to an exotic destination looking to land the man of their dreams. After a season full of romantic trysts, broken hearts, and many, many roses, The Bachelor slowly whittles down his dating pool to one lucky lady. Here’s hoping love conquers all.
No upcoming air dates. Please check back later.
Matt Grant is the envy of many men. 25 beautiful and interesting women from all over the country came to meet him, in hopes that he would be their soul mate. He spent the 12th season of The Bachelor, taking them on extravagant and romantic dates. He kissed more women in a month than some men kiss in their lifetimes. Yet, there’s part of the job of being The Bachelor that certainly isn’t enviable. Each week, he must break a woman’s heart, sending her home, and running the high risk of encountering a meltdown. Now, Matt is down to only two women: Shayne and Chelsea. It seems the two stand an equal chance to hearing Matt say, "Will you marry me?" on Monday night’s finale. If Matt’s having trouble deciding, here are a few reasons why Shayne would be the best match for him.
There’s no denying that Matt was attracted to Shayne right from the very beginning. She epitomizes a glamorous California girl. Yet, Shayne had a difficult time not being the center of attention every time Matt was around. Perhaps it was what she was use to in her everyday life but here, on The Bachelor, she’d have to fight for what she wanted and that really upset her. Early on, she pitched a fit in Vegas, saying she didn’t want to be there if she couldn’t have time with him. Matt was ready to send her home, feeling that she was too dramatic but gave her another chance to prove that she could relax and give him some space.

What2Watch: Oops! Britney On How I Met Your Mother Again

There was some talk to the effect that Neil Patrick Harris was not especially happy with the presence of Britney Spears on How I Met Your Mother, regarding it as the sort of stunt that becomes tiresome if a sitcom goes to that well too often (see: Will & Grace). He later relented, at least publicly, and Spears returns tonight as the series awaits its 2008-09 fate later this week.
Britney is back as the receptionist Abby, who is still mad at Ted and is now dating Barney, who has his own reasons to be irritated with his old friend. The pair decide to take turns taunting Ted in public, but Barney winds up going too far (imagine that). Spears got decent reviews for her first appearance, but it was really little more than an unexceptional guest role that was only worthy of mention due to surprise that she was able to look and speak like a sane person for half an hour. Eventually, the novelty will wear off and How I Met Your Mother will have to sink or swim on its reputation as one of the better sitcoms on television, which is not such a bad thing.
American Gladiators (NBC, 8 PM): Back and louder than ever. The male and female winners from the first season are Gladiators now and have been rechristened Jet (the former Monica) and Rocket (Evan).
Bones (Fox, 8 PM): Onetime American Idol contestant Ace Young plays an aspiring pop star who winds up dead by the side of the road, which will be a dream come true for a good many fans of Idol. As the investigation leads to an open mike night (during which Bones actually sings!), attention turns towards a deranged fan of the deceased.
Dancing With the Stars (ABC, 8 PM): Are all the performance shows going to be 90 minutes from now on? I suppose as long as the ratings justify it … Marissa, Kristi, Jason, and Cristian battle for the right to make the finals.

Ozark: a conservative campaign that can plan a great bachelor party

It is almost painful to see newcomers to the political process screw up, especially when it is before they even start the campaign.
Jon Ozark is announcing today that he will be challenging incumbent GOP Assemblyman Bob Beers in District 21 because “people are yearning for bolder leadership” and he promises his leadership to be “more conservative.”
However, both of his releases have been sent out by Johnny Theiss, who includes this e-mail signature that isn’t exactly subtle:
King of Clubs Las Vegas, LLC
7345 S. Durango Dr. Suite B-107-177
We journalists are lazy, but it doesn’t take much effort to click on a website and see that his campaign team can do more than just send out press releases.   They can offer bachelor party planning where “the possibilities are endless.”   I don’t think that he’s referring to the personalized luxury towels that they sell.
If you click on the “our buzz” page, you’re greeted by a shirtless girl covering her bosom with a hand towel bearing the company website address.   On this page, the company promotes that their concierge packages start at $1,500 a night and can include “masseuses or anything else the purchaser desires.”
The website continues with "As much or as little as the customer wants us to do, we do it," Johnny said.   That’s the same Johnny sending out press releases for a candidate calling himself a conservative.   I’m really not making this stuff up.
Mr. Theiss, try gmail.   It’s free, has unlimited storage, and then you’re not linking your not-so-conservative business to Mr. Ozark’s supposedly conservative campaign.   You hit us in the face with that signature line, twice.   We had to go there.
All of this with Ozark being bold about labeling himself a conservative and touting his Wharton school credentials.   In my book that makes him the dumbest smart guy running for Assembly 21 this year.

Another Day, Another Hope for Premature Babies

Posted to the web 11 March 2008
A healthy, beautiful, bouncing baby. This is what every mom longs for. But for Hawa, the story was quite different. She had to depend on the incubator, a special facility where babies born before their due date are kept to give them enough warth.
Hawa’s baby, Tabitha Tika, was born at 24 weeks. She weighed only 1.2kgs.
A standard pregnancy lasts 40 weeks (though at 36 weeks, the baby if fully developed) and a normal baby weighs at least 2.5kg.
"I did not think she would survive," says Hawa. "She was so tiny. Her father abandoned us saying they do not have a history of producing such kids in their clan."
Hawa gave birth in a tiny room at her home in Naguru, a Kampala suburb. Her neighbours rushed her to Mulago Hospital with her baby after the husband vanished.
"I had no relative here. I come from Arua. I stayed in the prematures’ ward for three months. We were discharged when Tika was three months old, the time she was supposed to have been born. She weighed about 3.7kg," says the 35-year-old who lost her first child at six years, when she was pregnant, leading to a premature birth because of shock.
